When three whole months went by without having your period you realized, you were anorexic. But that didn’t matter to you. You felt triumphant. When you were 18, you surprised yourself with another “achievement”: you weighed 83 lbs. You liked the number, but not what you saw in the mirror. If you weighed so little, why did you still look fatter than a 83 lbs. girl would? You spent nights crying, torn up between what the mirror reflected and what your loved ones told you. Today, I can tell you that you struggled, and you still do. That it took a while to get back on your feet, but that you made it because you wanted to have the freedom of living without fearing the moment of dinner.
