In an era when women are called out for not being “real” if they fit into the current beauty canon, 17 Argentine women in their twenties  — the first generation to suffer anxiety, low self-esteem, and obsession to reach the "perfect" body because of social media — boldly take off their clothes and show themselves without any retouching. They expose their inherent reality  — a human condition that does not respond to a size — to tear down stereotypes and preconceptions.

 

But the true nakedness here is their intimacy, how they share their stories, their pain, their healing, their struggle, and what makes them real. Not their measurements, not their curves, not their features. This photo series invites viewers to understand that images can be deceiving and that there's a story behind them. 

 

During this project, we collaborated together on portraying their sensuality and nudity, while letting them cover what society claims, if seen, would be scandalous, provocative, obscene, indecent, what women must cover if it's not for male consumption: breasts, nipples, bums — covering what we think we should cover, consciously or not, for fear of reprisal, social condemnation, shame or self-rejection.

 

Real is a manifestation against prejudice, a call to respect and empathy and, above all, to understand that we are all real women.

En una época en la que llamamos real a la mujer que se aleja del canon de belleza vigente, 17 mujeres de entre veinte y treinta años -la primera generación que sufre ansiedad, baja autoestima y obsesión por alcanzar el cuerpo “perfecto” a causa de las redes sociales- se animan a sacarse la ropa y mostrarse sin retoques. A exponer su inherente realidad, una condición humana que no responde a una talla, para desgarrar estereotipos y preconceptos. 

 

Pero el verdadero desnudo es el de su intimidad: comparten su historia, su pasado, su lucha interna, su aprendizaje, aquello que las hace ser reales. No sus medidas, no sus curvas, no sus facciones. Es por ello que esta serie de fotos también invita a comprender que las imágenes y apariencias pueden ser engañosas, y que hay una historia detrás. 

 

Durante el proyecto, colaboramos juntas en retratar su sensualidad y desnudez, por momentos dejando tapar lo que la sociedad sostiene que, de verse, se trataría de algo escandaloso, provocador, obsceno, indecente, desagradable. Lo que las mujeres debemos tapar, y más si no es para consumo masculino: pechos, pezones, colas, panzas, estrías, celulitis, acné, marcas en la piel. Tapando lo que nosotras creemos que deberíamos tapar, de forma consciente o no, por temor a la represalia, la cosificación, la condena social, por vergüenza o rechazo propio.

 

Real es una manifestación contra el prejuicio, y un llamado al respeto y la empatía. A ver más allá de una imagen y, por sobre todo, comprender que mujeres reales somos todas.
